Germany has gotten the rights to host the UEFA European Championship in 2024 beating Turkey. This would be the first major football event to be hosted by the country after it hosted FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2011 and the men’s World Cup in 2006.

Germany has won this championship three times and it is the second time when it is becoming a host of it.

The European football’s 17-member governing body made this announcement after they voted to back the German bid on Thursday.

This decision came as a disappointment for Turkey as it had previously failed with bids to host the 2008, 2012, and 2016 tournaments.

UEFA also did a tweet to share the news with the football fans.

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said that the procedure was transparent and the vote was democratic. Every democratic decision is the right decision.

The moment when the Germany was announced as the host country for the tournament was shared from the official twitter account of UEFA.

Former Germany captain Philipp Lahm, an ambassador for the German bid said after the announcement that,

“We have amazing stadiums, fans who love football; first and foremost we have people who love celebrating with other Europeans.”

He promised to turn this event into a big football party in Germany.

Germany has at least 46,000 capacity in its stadiums while Turkey has the capacity of less than 35,000.

UEFA fund 55 member federations from the revenue they generate from the revenues.

The 2020 tournament will be held across Europe, with the Allianz Arena in the German city of Munich hosting a quarter-final game.
